Between 1939 and 1945, during the Second World War, more than 6 million jews were murdered by the Nazi regime. Cremation chambers, gas chambers, shootings, starvation and cold were some methods used by nazis to dehumanize prisoners of concentration camps in Europe and kill them. Many survived, but they’ve carrying memories and scars until today. These are their stories.
Nanette
Blitz Konig
She stayed at Bergen-Belsen. The girl lost her family and weighted less than 68 pounds. Nanette and Anne Frank, writer of Holocaust’s most famous diary, were classmates at school.
Thomas Venetianer
The Slovakian boy and his family were arrested by Gestapo and sent to Terezin’s concentration camp. He spent his childhood years at the nazi fort.
Ruth Tarasantchi
Born at Yugoslavia, Ruth and her family were sent to Ferramonti camp, in Italy. It was the first concentration camp to be released in 1943.
Josef Freihof
In memory of Josef Freihof, dead in October 15th, 2016. Josef was saved by Oskar Schindler and worked as a joiner at the Schindler’s factory.
Julio Gartner
He was just a teenager when his parents were murdered. Julio went to five concentration camps until he was finally free in 1945.
Nanette Blitz Konig
Survivor of Bergen-Belsen camp, in Germany, Nanette weighed
68 pounds during the war. She used to live in Netherlands with her parents and her brother when nazis broke in their country. Until today she has eating difficulties. Listen her story below.

MAJDANEK
Built in 1969, Majdanek concentradion camp mausoleaum is a tribute to Holocaust’s victims.
Ashes of the ones who were cremated in the camp were put by the dom of the mausoleum. Mortal remains were collected after Majdanek was released, in 1944.
Is estimated that between 74 thousand and 90 thousand jews were deported do Majdanek camps.
